EMS Dictionary

- A&O - Alert and oriented
- ASAP - As soon as possible
- Code - Can refer to a cardiac arrest, or a radio code.
- DWPA - Dead with Paramedic Assistance
- EMS - Emergency Medical Service
- EMT - Emergency Medical Technician
- ETOH - Alcohol, liquer, beer, any alcoholic substance
- ETT - EndoTracheal Tube
- Frequent Flyer - Someone that calls an ambulance frequently
- FTD - Fixin to die
- FUBAR - F***ed up beyond all recognition
- FX - Fracture
- Goat Rope - A run where nothing went as planned.
- GOMER- Get out of my emergency room
- K+ - Potassium
- O2 - Oxygen
- O2SAT - Oxygen Saturation
- O’Dark:30 - Sometime during the very late hours.
- Rx - Prescription
- SOB - NO! It’s not what you call someone you don’t like. Shortness of Breath.
- Tech - Short for technician and usually refers to someone other than the driver.
- TX - Treatment, and may also be a code meaning “Make contact”
- VFib - Ventricular Fibrillation
- VTach - Ventricular Tachycardia
